Parked up in Ketchican, first stop at the southern end of the alaska panhandle. Meziadin lake, Stewart and Hayder where we visited last year are sort of directly inland from here, slightly further north, but there are no roads in the panhandle connecting either other alaskan towns or into BC - everything comes in by air or sea.
So far cruise has been far better than I expected - Maria got us a lastminute deal on an upgrade to a balcony cabin which is very nice - fell asleep last night with the curtains and doors open watching the occasional lighthouse or other boat lights go by, and it's a very smooth quiet ride - my fear after boats in Egypt and Norway was that the constant engine vibration would get to me, but it isn't happening in this bigger ship. Still not convinced I would want to cruise to anywhere I actually wanted to stay as you don't get to experience the local nightlife and food, but as there isn't much here and I'm sick of salmon I can forgo that for this trip
