South island must have taken notice of my moaning about light drizzle and intermittent wipers, as yesterday it chucked it down most of the day. Luckily we got a good start from Franz Jozef glacier yesterday morning and were in Queenstown in time for afternoon tea, although we boiled the kettle in the van as we didn't want to wander over to the kitchen I'm the rain. There were lots of pretty roadside waterfalls, but nothing to worry about. Some people from the park in Franz Josef arrived here today having spent last night in wanaka and said they has trouble passing some of the falls later in the day, and watching the news tonight that road is now closed due to flooding. And it is the only road down the west coast :-)
Wandered round Queenstown today with lovely sunshine and blue skies until late afternoon when the sun started going behind the hills, and in true sods law fashion its just started raining again as Maria is heading to the showers.....she has no luck at all
