From Sao Paulo we got the bus to Rio de Janeiro. We only stayed 3 nights (this time) while we dropped off a couple of bags to the host of the apartment where we will be staying for Carnival. It didn't make much sense to carry our winter gear all the way up to the Amazon and back again and he kindly offered to keep them for us. We'll do much more sightseeing next time, with our friends Yvonne and Tony who are joining us for Carnival
From Rio we flew to Salvador as it would have taken over 24 hours by bus. Now we don't mind doing the overnight buses as the sleeper seats are quite comfortable and we get to see the countryside en-route, but 24 hours is a bit too much. Time to chill out and relax for a week as the last few months have been quite full on, covering around 7,000km from Chile to Argentina and then to Brazil to sell the car.
We've covered over 3,000km so far in Brazil (it's a big country) but someone else has done the driving. Tomorrow we start our journey up and around the coast before we head into the Amazon jungle in a couple of weeks.
