At one degree north of the equator and an elevation of over 2,500m, Pasto gets a bit chilly at night. We got back to the hotel room to discover housekeeping had been in and turned down the bed covers, closed the blinds and left a thermos flask containing a lovely, warming, fruity drink of I know not what (although not alcoholic). I have to point out that on our budget I don't normally book nice 4 star hotels, but at a 40% discount, I pushed the boat out. Mark got a bit of a shock getting into bed as his feet touched something furry. Pulling back the covers he found two hot water bottles with nice furry covers. Definitely not something he was expecting 😀
Since leaving Cali on Wednesday, we've been on the highway through the danger zone. UK government advice is to not travel to any of the southern provinces except on highway 25 and the cities of Popayan, Pasto and Ipiales (which I'll blog about later.) So that's what we've done as there is no other way to get to Ecuador. We crossed the border today (only 2 1/2 hours of waiting and bureaucracy) and head to the capital Quito tomorrow.
